Reflections from past volunteers:

Cristin at an orphanage"In my placement I gained experience working with patients and other health care providers, as well as developing an intimate knowledge of the workings of the Ghanian healthcare system. To make the most out of a health placement, you have to be realistic with your expectations based on your skill level. Regardless, it is important to remember that, while you are there to help, you are primarily there to learn. In order to get the most out of a placement you have to be patient!"

Cristin Swords, Health Placement Intern, Wilton, USA

"The Abusua Foundation worked hard to make my stay in Ghana a meaningful and memorable experience.  They spent a lot of time working with me before my arrival and continued throughout my stay.  Upon my late night arrival in Accra they stood with a sign at the airport and greeted me with smiles while saying 'Akwaaba'.  The people at Abusua Foundation made sure I had all necessary materials (bed net, malaria medication, towel, etc.) before traveling with me to Enchi, a village 8 hours from Accra.  I am glad I volunteered with the Abusua Foundation, the experienced changed my life."

Megan Johnson, Community Service Intern, Portland, USA

"Interning at CHRAJ was an enjoyable experience which gave me real insight into the operation of one of Africa's best human rights institutions and an opportunity to work with some lovely colleagues"
