Orphanage/Afterschool Placement
We are looking for volunteers to work with Ooiem Orphanage and Kwaprow Afterschool Programme in the Cape Coast area of Ghana.
The Orphanage needs a volunteer to help work with the kids in the afternoons and on weekends. And to accompany the older kids to workshops and training programmes at the Abusua Foundation office in Cape Coast.
Kwaprow Afterschool runs every afternoon on Mondays-Fridays, and volunteers will take over 1 or 2 subjects and teach daily classes to the students. Subjects include: Math, Science, Geography, Drama, Art, English and French.
Volunteers work with both organisations on a flexible schedule, and usually take mornings off.
Duties would include:

Helping Ooiem kids with schoolwork

Organising leisure activities and field trips

Organise monthly trips to the Abusua Foundation Youth Resource Centre in Cape Coast to help the kids learn basic computer skills

Update the orphanage website

Write small scale grant applications and implement fundraising projects

Teaching 1-2 classes in the afternoons at Kwaprow Afterschool
We want a volunteer who:
-Is 18+
-Is committed to helping a small orphanage in Ghana grow and become sustainable
-Feels comfortable working and interacting with people from different backgrounds
-Feels comfortable learning new skills such as grant writing and website maintenance
-Has a “can do” attitude, and wont give up just because it’s tough
This opportunity is perfect for people just out of high-school or college, who want to experience working and living in Africa, such as gap-year placements.
Fees: We provide food and accommodation at the Abusua Foundation house in Cape Coast, airport pick-up, orientation in Ghana, and 24/7 emergency support for $120 a week.
Accommodation:
All interns for Cape Coast Placements are housed in the Abusua Foundation house, located on the University of Cape Coast campus. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the house, 7 days a week. Rooms hold 1-2 people and the house shares 4 bathrooms. There is a communal kitchen, living area and terrace.
There is a $500 confirmation fee, which is used to set up the placement and give an in-kind donation to the host organisation.
