Radio Placements

We are looking for interns to volunteer with two local radio stations in the Cape Coast area of Ghana (Ahomka FM, ATL FM).

As an intern you will be part of a team professionals at a local radio station in Cape Coast, Ghana (either ATL FM or Ahomka FM), working to create and implement radio programming. You will be involved in scriptwriting, conducting interviews, and involved in all that goes to producing news and studio based programmes. Duties may include reporting stories on air and conducting interviews.

ATL FM is a campus affiliated radio station, based on the University of Cape Coast. It broadcasts to the Cape Coast area, and is targeted towards students and university staff. ATL holds talk-based programming, such as daily news shows, as well as music programmes.

Ahomkah radio is an independent radio station based in Elmina, and is targeted towards young people, youth and adults. Its programming is music based, with occasional talk segments.

Objectives of the placement:

• Assist the radio station in the creation and implementation of its programmes.

• Advocate local and national issues, such as human rights, politics, civil liberties, social enterprise, gender issues and economic development

• Foster skill transfer between the interns and the radio station.

Requirements:
18+ with a proven interest in broadcast journalism. Those with university degrees in journalism and communications are given preference.

Accommodation:
All interns are housed in the Abusua Foundation house, located on the University of Cape Coast campus. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the house, 7 days a week. Rooms hold 1-2 people and the house shares 4 bathrooms. There is a communal kitchen, living area and terrace.

Hours:
Working hours are 8:30am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, unless otherwise specified.

Fees:
All interns are provided with airport pick-up, orientation in Cape Coast, 24/7 Emergency support, daily food (breakfast and dinner) and accommodation for $120 a week. For placements less than 6 weeks there is a flat fee of $720.

Confirmation Fee:
There is a $500 non-refundable confirmation fee to secure the placement, which is due 30 days after acceptance by the programme. The rest of the programme fee is due 30 days before your arrival in Ghana.

Visas; Airfare; Health insurance; Travel insurance; Vaccinations; Local transportation
