Medical Volunteering As a medical volunteer you will be part of a team professionals at Central Regional Hospital or Elmina District Hospital in the Cape Coast area of Ghana. Based on your interests and academic background, you will be assigned to a medical team (general medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery or dentistry). You will observe and assist the team in ward rounds, OPD duties, surgery in the operating theater, and public health outreach, depending on your placement.
There are also opportunities to organise public education and outreach for the facility in AIDS education and public health.
Through this placement volunteers will learn and develop their medical skills (specifically in tropical medicine), and gain a broader insight into the realities of healthcare and everyday life in the developing world, and in Ghana specifically.
